Egede Down

You are going about your everyday life in your neighbourhood. And then your neighbourhood is threatened with demolition.

Grace and Martha have been telling the stories of Port Harcourt’s waterfront communities for years. In Egede Down, they tell the hardest story of all: the demolition of Martha’s own community; how her house was turned to rubble; the protests they staged to try to avert forced eviction and the struggle to hold lives and livelihoods together after the disaster.

This is a powerfully told and carefully crafted story of one community’s fate. Unfortunately, it is also the story of many other waterfronts in Port Harcourt.

As one of Chicoco’s lead journalists and drama producers, local stories are important to me. They take me on journeys, often accompanied by my 5-year-old co-presenter, Biomele.
