New Markets in Okujagu

Kpo, kpo, kpo, kpo is heard across the neighbourhood as early as 8am. The sound comes from the table of the latest meat vendor to set up here. As quickly as the government shuts down the city’s established markets, informal markets open in waterfront communities like Okujagu. The governor declared, ‘Better to stay hungry to be alive than die eating’. People buying and selling food in these new markets disagree.
